CMS eases CROWNWeb deadlines for dialysis providers
Infian Informs with this latest update from CMS on the CROWNWeb Schedule, per this story from NNI, November 29, 2012:
After hearing from the renal community about ongoing inadequacies and system overload during data delivery, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services sent a letter to the renal community last week indicating it would relax deadlines for submission while the agency tries to resolve the problems. Dialysis providers had faced a Nov. 30 deadline to complete submission of patient data from May through August.
In the letter, Teresa Casey, director of the Division of ESRD Population and Community Health Quality Improvement Group for CMS, said, “While we are targeting a Nov. 30 date for the first four months of data, noncompliance does not have adverse consequences at this time … Due to certain challenges faced within the community, including Hurricane Sandy and the technical issues that are being addressed; submissions for all months will be permitted beyond November 30th, until further notice.”
Deadlines that providers should target for patient data submissions are:
|Data collection date||CROWNWeb deadline|
|May-August 2012||Nov. 30, 2012|
|September-December 2012||Jan. 31, 2013|
“Overall, we see this as a positive sign that CMS is headed in the right direction and we look forward to continue to assist CMS in achieving he quality agenda and improving the usefulness of CROWNWeb,” wrote Howard Thomas, a consultant for the National Renal Administrators Association, in a Nov. 21 email to members. Thomas has helped develop a portal for the NRAA to allow smaller dialysis providers to submit data to CROWNWeb.
